He even harnessed the waterfall for his electricity. It opened to the public in 1935. –

Charleys Chocolate Tour

Australia’s only Cocoa Tree to Chocolate bar Experience. Charley’s Chocolate is located at the foot of Mt Edna just outside Mission Beach and is set in 400 acres of lush pasture, creeks and tropical rainforest. Here we grow cocoa trees and make chocolate. You’re invited to come and see (and taste) how the chocolate we all love gets from tree to bar. Your chocolate experience starts with a look at the fascinating history of cocoa going back 3800 years. We then take a short, easy walk to our commercial cocoa tree plantation.

You’ll taste some of the ingredients and finish off sampling several varieties of premium “Mission Beach Made” dark chocolate.  Your tour concludes with genuine Aussie farm hospitality at lunch which is included in your admission. Charley’s Chocolate Tour operates every Thursday. Tour starts at 10.30am and lunch finishes at 1.30pm. Bookings essential.

Mamu Tropical Skywalk

The Mamu Tropical Skywalk allows visitors to explore the rainforest from the forest floor to the canopy, in comfort and safety. The walkway passes through one of the largest remaining continuous stands of complex vine forest on basalt soils in the Wet Tropics. Enjoy close-up views of rainforest plants, insects and birds, and take in sweeping vistas of World Heritage rainforest landscapes. Information signs tell of the rainforest’s complex web of life and the rich culture and history of the area. The walkway features a 350m elevated walkway, rising from ground level to 15m high in the canopy of lush tropical rainforest and a 10m cantilever and a 37m high observation tower with two viewing decks, providing spectacular views over the North Johnstone River gorge and surrounding rainforest-clad peaks of the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area
